چکیده

This paper gives an overview of state of the art in algorithms and tools using video and audio features. In particular, we extensively survey the features that can be efficiently extracted from compressed video and audio, which include visual, motion, coding, and audio features. We also discuss typical applications of these compressed-domain features in video and audio indexing and analysis. Finally, we give a summary of important visual and audio descriptors in the current MPEG-7 standard draft, and discuss the possibility of extracting these descriptors directly from compressed video and audio.

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Video Abstraction in H.264/AVC Compressed Domain

Video abstraction allows searching, browsing and evaluating videos only by accessing the useful contents. Most of the studies are using pixel domain, which requires the decoding process and needs more time and process consuming than compressed domain video abstraction. In this paper, we present a new video abstraction method in H.264/AVC compressed domain, AVAIF. The method is based on the norm...

Survey of compressed-domain features used in audio-visual indexing and analysis

In this paper, we attempt to provide a comprehensive and high-level review of audiovisual features that can be extracted from the standard compressed domains, such as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. The paper is motivated by the myriad of active research works in extraction and application of compressed-domain features in various fields, such as indexing, filtering, and manipulation. Compressed-domain appro...

Content-Based Indexing for Search and Browsing

Storage and archiving of digital video in shared disks and servers in large volumes, browsing of such databases in real-time, and retrieval over switched and packet networks pose many new challenges, one ofwhich is efficient and effective description of content. The simplest method to index content is by means of a thesaurus of keywords, which can be assigned manually or semiautomatically to pr...

Audio scene analysis and scene change detection in the MPEG compressed domain

The use of audio to retrieve and index the associated video is a relatively new approach. In this paper the focus is on MPEG video. For indexing and retrieval one needs to segment the audio stream associated with the video in terms of gender, speech, music and the speaker. This is called “Audio scene” analysis. The paper discusses techniques for such analysis in the MPEG audio compressed domain.
